Glossary - Gamification

Gamification is a process or an app that enables usage of gaming designs and gaming principles in non-game contexts. It means that a process that helps to solve issues by using features of gaming elements — this technique used for reaching several task goals. For example, increasing user engagement, the productivity of the given organization, crowdsourcing, measuring the usefulness of some systems are some of them. Gamification techniques are vastly used for improving the social habits, learning, and development capacities of humans. 

Encouragement is a crucial aspect of this process. A person’s behavior regarding this matter is widespread. If there are a reward or leader boards, people will want to compete. The competitive nature of people helps them achieve better results in Gamification. Another definition for this term would be making something more like games. 

Applications of Gamification

Gamification can use tutorials, levels, and challenges like video games. Going through this stuff, people will feel more engaged, and competitiveness will help them to succeed. There are several characteristics of Gamification applications. For example, the most important ones of game design are points, badges, avatars, teammates, and leaderboards.

Points are earning from achieving specific tasks. In games, the philosophy of the points is the same. Gamification uses different types of positions. For instance, redeemable ones, experience points, or reputation points are some of them. However, points are not visually showing your achievements. That is why we have badges in the Gamification process. 

Badges are visually representing your achievement. Gamified environments are using them for rewarding individuals who distinguish themselves from others in a positive manner. Leaderboards are an essential part of the Gamification process. Through those boards, players can see the rankings of each other after certain activities. These help people increase their competitiveness and grind thought it.
